2022 Web Design Trends to Freshen Up Your Website
A few website design trends to freshen your website.
If there’s one basic rule for web design, it’s that styles and preferences are always changing. Each year it seems that consumer activity is somewhat redefined, which means we must tweak our SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and other website attributes. Today, we’re going to concentrate on design elements by discussing some of the most popular web design trends for 2022.
Less Bombardment
One of the first web design trends for 2022 that you should pay attention to can simply be put like this: “take it slow.” What we mean is that there’s been a tendency in recent years for some businesses to create a website that bombards their visitors with so much information from the jump that it can be overwhelming. This is particularly true in the hero section of a site, which is the oversized banners just below your homepage’s top menu.
Try to minimize the number of popups or ads that immediately show up to website visitors. Having too many popups or ads can be a violation of Google Core Web Vitals, which can hinder your website’s ranking potential.
Custom Illustrations
Photos are great, but custom illustrations and photos are even better! By adding custom illustrations or photos to your website, it tells a visitor — perhaps subconsciously at times — that you’re taking the design of the website seriously. Another popular trend that can gain you some brownie points is to use a local artist and then make sure you credit him or her very clearly. This is a wonderful way for you to express some personality and show dedication to your local community.
Parallax Scrolling
Of all the web design trends for 2022 that’s been gaining ground, parallax scrolling is perhaps the most visually appealing. This is a delightful user interface technique where the background of a site moves at a different speed than the foreground to create a 3D effect.
A simple way to do this is how the Goonies website pulled it off. While it’s true that companies have been urged in the past to have as much as they can above the fold to avoid scrolling, the creation of parallax scrolling nixed that by making the act of scrolling into an engaging experience all its own.
Engaging Story
One of the most effective ways to create a unique experience for a website visitor is to present them with a visually appealing, eye-catching story. This can be done with simple text and images. But perhaps the best way is with the use of the aforementioned parallax scrolling technique. There are many great examples out there, but our personal favorite — and we’re not alone here — is that of the website for Every Last Drop. Check out their design style and you’ll see what we mean.
More White Space
Going back to the whole bombardment issue for a moment, we need to discuss the amount of white space on your website. There’s a good chance that you don’t have enough. This is one web design trend that is pretty simple and the result can be very appealing. All you really need to do is think in somewhat minimalistic terms and place white space between images and text so that everything doesn’t seem squished together and messy.
Psychology of Color
Some of us can remember many years ago when the psychology of color was a primary marketing force for grocery stores. They understood that certain colors elicited certain feelings, which would often prompt people to be more inclined to purchase the product from the shelf. This concept has moved to websites in the recent years.
The two basic color palette schemes for websites are soft, cool colors for backgrounds and information, and bold, warm colors for the Calls-to-Action. Don’t forget that each year, a trend forecasting company called WGSN and Coloro designates an official website color.
